Almost everyone treats night noise as a volume problem. Something is too loud, so the fix must be to make it quieter — earplugs, thicker curtains, a rug, a word with the landlord.
But a bedroom at night is not loud. It is very quiet with occasional events in it, and that is a far worse thing to sleep in. Hearing does not switch off when you sleep; it stays on watch. A steady sound gets ignored within minutes. A sound arriving at unpredictable intervals never does — noticing exactly that is the entire job of the system.
So the harder you chase silence, the more each remaining noise stands out. Raising the floor does the opposite: a steady, uninteresting sound the next noise no longer clears the top of.
The night it starts working is not dramatic. You notice it a day later, when you realise the door that always wakes you did not.
This is the whole reason the Duskwave has eight faders instead of a playlist.
